Our Whakataukī has been a big part of our Mokaraka Whānau Reunion Komiti development.
We wanted something to represent us as a whanau, and express a deeper meaning of connection.
It was created by Byron Toki Thompson, and below you will find the explanation, He Whakamārama, in his own words.
“The Marae is the foundation & centre pillar that upholds the dignity, ancestry, and identity of its descendants.
It is the root of relationships, hospitality, and the preservation of ancestral customs, connections and traditions.”
